Mark Scriver  is one of the world’s top open canoeists. He was OC world freestyle champion in 1997 in Ottawa, and came 2nd at the 1993 world championships. In the mid 90s, he was one of the first open canoeists to shorten canoes and adapt them for running harder whitewater, and he’s been instrumental in the design of several canoes, including the Esquif Taureau ( which he can be seen paddling in “This is Canoeing”).

Mark is respected amongst his peers for boldly running hard rapids which most other open boaters walk around. He has an ability to see the line past the hole, and not be put off by the roar of the recirculating water. He’s run several first descents in open canoes.

Together with Paul Mason, Mark wrote the instructional book “Thrill of the Paddle” about the art of whitewater canoeing. He’s the author of the book “Canoe camping” and co-author of  “Camp Cooking: the Blackfeather guide“.

Mark is a multi-disciplined paddler and has led over 50 whitewater canoeing, sea kayaking and hiking expeditions in the Canadian north and Greenland and has recently taken up Standup Paddling.

Mark is the Western Canada rep for  Kokatat, Esquif canoesWerner paddles and Imagine SUP and Surfboards.
