PostHeaderIcon Gordon Brown joins the store.

We now have all 3 ‘sea kayak with Gordon Brown’ DVDs in our UK/ Europe store. I’m sure if you are reading this kayaking blog then you know this award winning instructional DVD series doesn’t feature the former prime minister, but in fact stars Scottish Level 5 coach Gordon Brown.

DVD 1 looks at fundamental paddling techniques, forward paddling, turning, breaking in and out of tidal streams and linked strokes for use in rougher water

DVD 2 is a comprehensive look at rescues and towing for sea kayaks. It also features a journey to the stunning, rarely visited islands of St Kilda in Scotland

DVD 3 contains four films covering Emergency situations, sea kayak navigation, first aid kits and a rolling clinic. Navigation guru Franco Ferrero and wilderness first aid instructor Rowland Woolven help with the coaching.

Remember you can always save money if you buy more than 1 DVD. Get 10% off when you buy any 2 DVDs (use code 2dvd at checkout). Get 20% off if you buy all 3 DVDs (that’s a £12 saving using code 3dvd). These discounts apply on all 20 paddling DVDs for sale in our store – we think we have one of the best collections of paddling DVDs anywhere! So visit the store and have a browse!

These are PAL DVDs which will play in DVD players and computer in the UK, Europe & Australasia. If you live in North or South America or Japan, a PAL DVD should play in a computer but may not play on your DVD player. We sell many NTSC DVDs in our US/ Canada store.

PostHeaderIcon Fundy Fun Film – chose your price?

I’m excited to share “Fundy Fun” – a film about the dynamic waters of the Bay of Fundy – home to the world’s largest tidal range.

I was lucky enough to go there in September while attending the BOFSKS and put together this film of the eye-popping Walton Wopper, the smile-enducing chocolatey waves of the Shubie river, the endless line of waves off Brier island, and two inquisitive humpback whales who kept coming up to our kayaks off Long island.

I’m doing a bit of an experiment with this film – it’s for sale in my webshop – but YOU can chose the price that it’s worth to you. I’m hoping that this will lead to a lot more downloads and a lot more people seeing the film. I know there’s a lot of “free” content on the internet these days so it’s harder for people like me to ‘sell’ films. So here’s hoping that if you want to see the whole film, you’ll download it and watch it, and throw a contribution into the hat. I had to set a ‘nominal price’ for the film so I chose £4.99 – but if you check out, you’ll see you can put your own figure in there. Anything goes!

Thanks to Jaime Sharp and Chris Lockyer who provided quite a bit of extra footage. Jaime got the amazing underwater whale shots. Matt Nelson & Rob Avery also took some shots. These guys are joined on the water by Paul Kuthe, Sean Morley, Nick Cunliffe, Ryan Rushton & others who all feature on screen. Thanks to Chris & the rest of the BOFSKS committee for getting me over to the event and Valley Sea Kayaks for contributing to my travel costs. The symposium is running again in 2014 if you’re sold on paddling in this amazing area!

PostHeaderIcon Yoga DVD for sale

As kayakers, flexibility helps with paddling and preventing injury. I have practiced yoga for about 10 years for this reason. I’m still not very good and I always joke that I’m merely maintaining my level of inflexibility! I go to a weekly class when I’m home in Wales but since I’m often away it would be of benefit to me to have a routine that I can follow by myself.

Today a new DVD comes out by Helen Wilson and Mark Tozer with 3 yoga sequences designed specifically for outdoor people. We have some in stock ready to ship, so if you too could benefit from looking after your flexibility or improving your strength then maybe it would help you?

Check it out in the DVD store.

PostHeaderIcon New Trailers for “Sarah Outen” & “Sardinia”

I’ve made trailers for the films “Sarah Outen” and “Sardinia”. If you haven’t seen the films then check out the trailers and see if you’d enjoy them. Both are on ‘This is the Sea 5’ which can be bought as a DVD or download – or you can buy the individual films as downloads. Sardinia costs less than a pint or glass of wine! The 40 minute film about Sarah is £4.99. Or you can buy the entire download of “This is the sea 5” for £14.99. All the films are available with optional Spanish, French & Italian subtitles.

Sarah Outen is currently rowing solo across the Pacific ocean. She has changed her original plan as she wasn’t going to reach Vancouver before the winter storms set in. She’s now aiming north for the Aleutian islands. See where she is now here. She’ll return home for the Winter, then I will fly back to the Aleutians with her next Spring. We’ll aim to kayak from there back to Homer, the first road on the Alaska mainland – an epic journey of about 1400 nautical miles.
